About Me
Starting off
I grew up overweight, failed at many diets, and never really understood what it
takes to lose weight. (until now!)
I started out "average" but I gained weight quickly due to an asthma medication
I was taking.
I finally got off of the medication years later, but the damage was already done.
I was obese, and still had asthma. Great.
I had no idea about BMRs, calories, workouts, nothing!
I thought if I followed the latest diet book, I would be skinny...forever.
Wrong!
Viscious Cycle
I would lose weight, and gain it back, repeatedly.
I tried Atkins in the sumer of 2004. It worked for a month or so, until I got sick of
eating nothing but fats and meat. The second I started eating carbs and fruit
again - Bam! The weight was back... and then some, I'm sure.
After that, I decided to just eat very little. I cringe now thinking how I was
starving myself and not realizing it. I probably wasn't even eating 1000 calories
a day.
Needless to say that didn't last long either! I did drop some weight, but I
couldn't maintain it because I was hungry, and still didn't know anything about
health. I wasn't counting calories, I always did the same old workout. It got
frustrating!
I gained it all back again. I gave up.
Try, Try Again
Fall, 2007. I discovered a show named "Biggest Loser" just as it was
beginning its 5th season. (You may have heard of it. ) ;-)
It was inspiring, interesting, and just what I needed.
One of the trainers, Jillian Michaels, has a certain "way" of dealing with the
contestants. Some call it rough, mean, and even abusive.
But it's not. It's the truth. It's what the contestants, and many overweight people
need.
Jillian does not take "no", or "I Can't" for an answer and she pushes people
beyond their limits. She makes them confront their fear, ugly pasts, and hurtful
emotions. Why? Because it frees them. It gets them to the root of the problem -
why they became overweight in the first place.
I loved her approach so much and I began listening to Jillian's radio show, and
learned loads of health information from her.
I realized what made her different from most other "fitness gurus" - She was all
about hard work, no quick fixes or "8 minute abs."
At the time, I had already been on a diet and exercise program on my own for
about 9 months. I was eating a low calorie diet, (still wasn't counting calories!)
and doing the "Celebrity Fit Club" workout DVD 6 times a week.
I had lost 40 pounds, but I was losing interest and seeing declining results.
The last thing I wanted to do was to give up again. I needed a change so I
signed up for a free trial to Jillian's website - and the rest is history.
The results were coming fast and furious! Of course the workouts are no walk
in the park, but they are worth it and there are 3 levels of workouts to choose
from.
The $52 dollars every 3 months is worth it, considering how my life has
changed - for good, and everything I've learned.
Staying On Track
I have been studying all things diet, fitness and health for almost 4 years now,
and am studying to be a NESTA certified "Lifestyle and Weight Management
Specialist."
To date, I have lost a total of 64* pounds, and have more to lose.
When I reach my goal weight, I plan on Making The Cut.
It's like a hardcore way to show off your achievements and level of fitness. In a
way, it's the "icing on the cake!"
I know, I shouldn't mention cake and icing on a weight loss site, but whatever!
It's not always easy, but in the end, all the hard work is worth it.
Anyone can do it, with the right tools and information.
That is why I made this site. You can do a search for "weight loss help", and get
a crap load of false information and fad diets, but how many sites offer
FACTS?
I hope I can help as many people as possible realize the truth behind weight
loss.
Best of luck!!!
